Why Thanksgiving week is a sleeper favorite
By late November the summer crowds are long gone, the last of the leaf color is hanging on in the hollows, and the bluff views open up as the trees thin out. Nights are cold enough for a real campfire and days are usually mild enough for a hike. If you have ever wanted the farm nearly to yourself, this is the week.
It is also the easiest holiday to do from a campsite. No airport, no traffic jam into the city, and the people you want to see can pull their rig in right next to yours. We have had families book a row of sites and run one long table down the middle.
Where to stay for the holiday
- Full hookup RV sites with free Wi-Fi and complimentary laundry, so the big cooking day is less of a chore. See RV & Camping.
- Cabins for the part of the family that does not camp. Our Cabins & Spa page has the details, including the Spa Cabin with its barrel sauna and bluff view, which is about as cozy as a cold November night gets.
- Monthly stays if you are heading south for the winter and want to make the mountain your November base. Details on Monthly Stays.
Thanksgiving weekend books up earlier than the rest of November, so if you are planning on a cabin, reserve it now.
Thanksgiving Day on the farm
Cook at your site, then walk it off. There are miles of trails on the property, with waterfalls tucked into the woods and the bluff overlook for a late-afternoon view that stretches into Alabama. If the weather turns, the fire ring and a blanket are a fine plan too.
Piggy's Store at the office carries the basics for anything you forgot, and the Lodge Cast Iron Factory Store down in South Pittsburg is the place to pick up a cornbread pan or a Dutch oven before the big day. Check our Lodge Cast Iron page for the short drive and what to expect.
Holiday lights in Chattanooga, 40 minutes away
Rock City's Enchanted Garden of Lights opens for the season on Friday, November 13, 2026 and runs nightly through December 31 (closed December 24). Tickets are sold online only and prices change by date and entry time, so pick your night before you leave the farm. Adult tickets were listed from $31 to $49 and children (ages 3 to 12) from $21 to $39 at the time we checked. Santa is on site nightly through December 23. Confirm details on Rock City's site before you go.
Thanksgiving weekend also brings the Chattanooga Christkindlmarkt to Coolidge Park on the North Shore: Saturday, November 28 (10 am to 6 pm) and Sunday, November 29 (11 am to 6 pm). It is a nice way to start on gifts and get a hot drink by the river. Check the organizer's site for final details.
For more ideas on the drive down, our Chattanooga sightseeing guide lists drive times from your campsite to Ruby Falls, Point Park, the Incline Railway and the Tennessee Aquarium.
A simple four-day plan
- Wednesday: Arrive, set up, stop at Lodge Cast Iron on the way up the mountain. Campfire.
- Thanksgiving Thursday: Cook, eat, hike to the bluff, nap. Repeat the eating part.
- Friday: Lazy morning on the farm, then an evening at the Enchanted Garden of Lights.
- Saturday: Christkindlmarkt at Coolidge Park, then back up the mountain for one more fire before the drive home Sunday.
Good to know before you book
- Office and store hours over the holiday follow our regular schedule unless we post otherwise on the Events page. Call ahead if you plan a late arrival on Thanksgiving Day.
- Active and former Service Members get 10% off their stay.
- Quiet hours and campfire rules are on our park rules page. Please check the burn conditions when you arrive; late fall can be dry on the plateau.
